“Brands own formats, not floors. Gyms are capital-heavy, local, and low-margin; a competition is IP you own, a brand halo, and product on every athlete. The team format and the institutional pipeline are the corner of fitness competition nobody owns yet.”
What it is
The product
The Gauntlet is an owned team fitness league. Four-athlete squads represent their school, college, or university and compete across a season — divisions up to a Premier tier, with promotion and relegation, regional qualifiers, playoffs, and a floodlit grand final. It is anchored by a 25,000 sq ft open-air competition arena in Bengaluru that doubles as the broadcast set and a year-round training destination. The format travels; the home anchors it. (Working name.)
The problem
What we set out to solve
Functional-fitness competition is filling up along one axis only — individual races for adults, almost always in rented indoor boxes. The team format, the grassroots school→college→university pipeline, and a season structure are all still unclaimed. India has proven, unserved demand: a single city put thousands of athletes on the start line inside a year, and juniors already fly abroad to race a single day, because there is no home institutional competition.
The build
How it actually works
A standardised, repeatable test of running and functional strength, raced as a four-athlete relay — the studio owns the movement standard, the rulebook, and the broadcast rights as protectable IP, distinct from any existing race. An in-house registration, scoring, and OTT/streaming pipeline runs the season end to end. The open-air arena flips the sport’s two heaviest costs — market rent and HVAC — into an advantage: an outdoor run loop, covered functional stations, floodlit for any hour. The institutional network is signed through deep school, college, and university relationships. Asset-light and events-native by design.
